Abacus

28/04/2015

The abacus in the bathhouse is a simplified version of the original Roman calculation tool, but it works the same. The top row, L, D and V, represents 500, 50, and 5. The bottom row, M, C, X, I, is equivalent to 1000, 100, 10 and 1. By placing the cubes in the slots Romans made sums and calculations. Characteristic for calculating with the abacus is to simplify and thereby reduce the number of letters. 100, you can write as LL, but easier is C.
