Statue of Nehalennia

Statue of Nehalennia

This image, fished out of the Oosterschelde in Zeeland, shows us the goddess Nehalennia. In a temple statues were often placed to give a physical form to the god(dess). Nehalennia is originally a goddess in our region, if you look at her clothes and hairstyle. She was visited by merchants on their way to England, who came to bring an offer to the temple for a safe crossing.
