A washbasin or Aquamanile is a special pot to wash the hands. Usually the medieval examples are in the shape of an animal for example a knight on a horseback. In this tank, the water is collected from the pot. It was important to wash the hand before an (important) meal. By purchasing an expensive Aquamanile the Merchant could emphasize his status.
