Segmentata

Segmentata

This is one of the armor worn by Roman soldiers. The harness is called a lorica segmentata, because it consists of several iron plates (segments) which are tied together with leather straps. The armor protects well against heel and melee attacks and is relatively light and flexible. Soldiers had to pay for their own equipment and maintenance!
