Exhibition: The Story of Nicholas

11 November 2023 – 3 December 2023

From 11 November 2023 until 3 December 2023, the exhibition The Story of Nicholas was on display at Archeon Museum Park. The exhibition introduced visitors to the origins and development of the legend of Saint Nicholas, the bishop of Myra who became the inspiration for the Dutch Sinterklaas tradition.

The exhibition took visitors back to the earliest history of this saintly figure, who lived around the year 300 in the eastern part of the Roman Empire. His reputation as a benefactor and miracle worker spread quickly, giving him an almost mythical status during his lifetime and shortly after his death.

The exhibition showed how various stories, traditions, and customs surrounding Saint Nicholas developed over the centuries. Visitors discovered ancient legends, such as the story of the three poor girls who were helped by Nicholas, and gained insight into how these stories were passed down and transformed across different cultures and periods.

Through a combination of historical objects, visual materials, and stories from both the past and the present, the exhibition offered a broad perspective on the origins of one of the most well-known figures in European folk culture.

This exhibition took place from 11 November 2023 until 3 December 2023.
